Snehan / Abhyanga (Ayurvedic Oil Massage) :

Abyanga is Ayurveda's principal healing tool and the mother of all massages. It is a  whole body massage given with herbal oils customized to your body type to detoxify, nourish and revitalize the body tissues (Dhatus). Abhyanga has much deeper and more far reaching effects than  ordinary massage using mineral oils and lotions. Abhyanga achieves deepest healing effects by naturally harmonizing Mind Body & Spirit. This massage is usually given by two therapists for one hour and is usually followed by a herbal bath or medicated steam bath (Sweda). It is one of the most rejuvenating treatments of Ayurveda.

Sweden (Medicated Steam Bath) :

Though non-medicated steam bath is also recommended by different healthcare practitioners from across the world, steam from water medicated with Ayurvedic herbs has several specific benefits.

The major benefit of such a medicated steam bath is that it mobilizes accumulated ama (bodily wastes) that accumulates in different srota (body channels) and blocks the way of vital energy reaching different parts of the skin.

 

The steam is mainly aimed at swedan (sweating) to release the accumulated toxins. Steam bath is also supported by different steam bath boxes, in which the person can take a standing, sitting or lying down position. Fully medicated steam is passed to the chamber so that the person gets his body below neck completely bathe in medicated steam.

In addition to removing toxic wastes, Vashpaswedan also is beneficial in curing different skin problems like psoriasis.

 

 

Njavarakizhi ( Medicated Herbs and rice pottali fomentation in milk ):

Navarakizhi is a perspiration-triggering body scrub. What makes this treatment different is the use of medicated herbal rice.

To make these, rice in first soaked in natural herbs and oils. The blend is cooked to steam, and the resulting fragrant mixture is then contained in puffy muslin tea bags.

The procedure in Navarakizhi is a two-step process: specially-applied oil is first slathered all over the body, after which the muslin tea bags are used to 'pound' the body, with extra
focus in areas where marma (nerve points) reside.

Navarakizhi is extremely effective against rheumatism, joint and muscle pains, back pains (e.g. sciatica, slipped discs), high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and sexual problems such as and menstruation, infertility and nervous weaknesses. It may also get
rid of certain skin problems.

 

Shirodhara :

Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic treatment which involves slowly pouring liquids over a client's third eye, which is located in the forehead. It has been used in India for centuries to treat a wide range of conditions, and many spas have adopted Shirodhara treatments for their clients.

 

In the West, Shirodhara is an immensely popular option on the menu at many high end spas, and it may be bundled with other body treatments for a luxurious spa session.

In Ayurvedic medicine, Shirodhara is designed to relax the body and open the third eye. It is used to treat a range of skin conditions, along with eye problems, stress, insomnia, memory loss, and graying hair. A wide range of liquids can be used, depending on the body type of the patient; oils are common, but milk, buttermilk, and water can be used as well. Frequently, the liquid will be infused with herbs which are tailored to the client.

Shirobasti :
In Shirobasti process, a long leather cap, open at the top, is fitted around the patient's head. Through the top opening, medicated oil at a moderate temperature is poured on to the head. The oil is retained for a specific period.

This procedure is highly useful in Trigiminal neuralgia, Hemicrania, Optic atrophy, Otalgia, Deafness, Facial paralysis and all disorders affecting cranial nerves.
 
Shiroabhyang :
 

Shiroabhyanga is a beautiful combination of the Shirodhara and Abhyanga treatments in one. Firstly, the deeply relaxing Shirodhara treatment is given; warmed medicated oils are gentle drizzled onto the forehead over 45 minutes. This delightful sensation melts away all chatter and mental activity leaving the mind calmed, cooled and refreshed.

Secondly, the gentle but firm hand massage movements of Abhyanga are given to the entire head, neck and shoulders. This loosens tight muscles and encourages much needed blood circulation that flooding the head with oxygen-rich blood and helping to remove harmful toxins.

This treatment nourishes the five senses by focusing on the ‘marma points’, many of which are located around the head. These points, when gently massaged have a hugely calming and balancing effect throughout the body and nervous system.

Nasya :
The nose is the doorway to the brain, mind and consciousness. Prana, or life-force energy, enters our bodies through the breath so it is vital that the nostrils are free from blockages, well lubricated and in a healthy condition. The Nasya treatment aids the lubrication and cleansing of the nostrils and stimulates other benefits throughout the whole of the neck and head. 

Nasal is the nasal administration of medicinal herbs and oils for the purpose for treating a whole range of ailments from the neck up. Dry nasal passage, sore throat, hoarse voice, stiffness in the neck of head, jaw ache, facial paralysis, headaches, migraines and various eye and ears problems. It also relieves mental and emotional stress, anxiety, fear and negativity. 
 
Different oils are used to treat differing symptoms or aliments. Nasya oil is infused with special herbs that both nourish and lubricate the sinus cavities.
Kati basti :

This is a very effective treatment for back pain, stiffness, and other back concerns related to spinal disc problems.

Medicated herbal oil is applied on the back, and the local Marma points are energized. Then a dam made of flour and herbs is placed on the lower back and warm oil is gently poured into it.

 

This treatment considerably increases the circulation in the region, as the medicated oil gets deeply absorbed into the skin, and both nourishes and strengthens the muscles and nerves.

Netra basti :
This is one of the most nourishing and rejuvenating therapies for the eyes. It is performed by filling a dam (made out of dough and placed around the eyes) with a lukewarm medicated oil or ghee (clarified butter).

This therapy helps relieve eye strain, improve vision, pacify the doshas in the head area, and is used to prevent and treat a wide variety of eye ailments, including poor vision, eye fatigue, macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts.
Janu basti :
Janu Basti is a special ayurvedic treatment which offers relief from pain of knee joints and osteo arthritis of the knee joint.

The treatment also strengthens the knee joint by improving blood circulation. Warm medicated oil or herbal decoctions are used for the process.
